Great Composer Quiz – May 26, 2020

This time, it’s a Quiz about how to respond after getting turned down. When this Great Composer was 21, he applied for membership to a new, prestigious musical society whose membership rolls would contained many of the biggest names in music. Admission would have furthered our young Great Composer’s musical career substantially. However, he was turned down. Soon after, his music began to gain notice in the press, and he saw the first public performance of one of his secular works, an overture, which received praise locally and abroad. So who was this man who rose above rejection, this Great Composer?

Time’s up, pencils down. The Great Composer who was rejected for membership in the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (Society of Friends of Music in Vienna), but managed to overcome his disappointment and go on to become Franz Schubert.
