This time, it’s a Quiz about a drinking dad. This Great Composer’s father was in charge of the town battalion, as well as being the town doctor. Still in his forties, he was apparently good company, much in demand at parties in the town. He was said to have had gracious manners and a pleasant singing voice which he accompanied on the guitar. But our Great Composer’s Father also drank heavily and came to bemoaned this fact. He felt his years of intoxication had robbed him of his strength to work. Our Great Composer once wrote of him, “My father loved his pleasures too much and played cards and so on. We were once rich and are now poor.” So who was this son of a drinking man, this Great Composer?

The answer is Christian Sibelius, father of Jean Sibelius, who developed an impressive drinking habit of his own, and passed it along to his son Jan.
