The Great Composer Quiz – August 5, 2020

Time’s up, pencils down. The self-absorbed Great Composer who wouldn’t shut up. That’s what Robert Schumann observed, and he was seconded by the critic Eduard Hanslick. The answer is Richard Wagner. The French writer Édouard Schuré described Wagner as a “floodtide that nothing can stem.” Wagner’s father-in-law Franz Liszt said Wagner possessed “a great and overwhelming nature, a sort of Vesuvius.”
