The Great Composer Quiz – September 17, 2020

This time it’s a Quiz that was lost but now has been found. When this Great Composer was fourteen, he received the first ever Mendelssohn Scholarship, granting him a year of training at the big academy. Eleven years later, now twenty-five, he followed in the footsteps of Mendelssohn, who had helped spark a revival of the music of Bach. Our Great Composer took steps to revive the music of another neglected master, Franz Schubert. He traveled to Vienna with another big name in classical music (though not a composer or performer), in search of manuscripts left behind by Schubert at his death nearly four decades earlier. He found many scores, copied them, and brought them home for audiences to hear. So who was this reclamation manager, this Great Composer?
