The Great Composer Quiz – January 13, 2021
This time, it’s a Quiz about puffing to verse. This Great Composer was an avid pipe smoker. He even went so far as to write a rare poem (rare for him to be writing poetry) about his pastime.
Whenever I take my pipe and stuff it
And smoke to pass the time away,
My thoughts, as I sit there and puff it,
Dwell on a picture sad and gray:
It teaches me that very like
Am I myself unto my pipe.
He goes on to say that like his pipe is only earth and clay and will one day return to the dust, but for now is burning bright. So who was this man, who enjoyed a bowl of fine tobacco, this Great Composer?
