The Great Composer Quiz – July 14, 2020

Time’s up, pencils down, the Great Composer who earned an honorary degree from Yale, and talked symphonies in the sauna with a rival symphonist. What he most liked about the symphony, he claimed, was its “severity of style and the profound logic that [creates] an inner connection between all the motifs.”

The answer is Jean Sibelius, and his rival who shared an hour in the sauna, and who disagreed with most everything Sibelius had to say about the symphony, was Gustav Mahler.
