The Great Composer Quiz – July 24, 2020

This time it’s a Quiz about not following your first inclinations. When this Great Composer was thirteen he played flute in a sextet, which also included a horn player and a string quartet. He wrote his first work for this ensemble, and after the horn player died the group became a quintet, and our Great Composer’s next two works were written for flute and string quartet. It would be the last time he wrote chamber music. (Are you thinking Wagner? Good guess, except it’s wrong.) So who was this teenage flutist, this Great Composer?
