The Great Composer Quiz – October 27, 2020

This time, it’s a Quiz about identify theft. This Great Composer had a tendency not to value his works highly enough to keep them. He often gave away manuscripts as gifts. He soon discovered his works were being published and sold in music shops, with no payment coming to him. It wasn’t until a countess hired him as her singing and keyboard teacher that our Great Composer finally began to get a foothold in his career. So, who was this tentative starter, this Great Composer?

Hint: He first came to public attention with his first opera, called The Limping Devil, which was written for a famous comic actor of the day. It was premiered successfully when our Great Composer was twenty-one, but was soon shut down by censors.
